Workshops & Training

We offer three modes of training: 8-Week Intensive Workshops, Standalone Topical Workshops, and Individual Workshops.

Intensive Courses

Whether you are new to Omeka or an experienced user, Omeka’s intensive course offerings hold something for everyone. Participants will benefit from the knowledge and experience of a member of the Omeka team.

Each student will gain an understanding of the core capacities of the platform under study, and the best ways to leverage add-ons to extend the software’s functionality and to achieve key project goals. Sessions will address important issues such as designing for community engagement, building sophisticated interpretation that makes the most of digital collections.

Perfect for digital scholarship librarians, project managers, and instructors, each eight-week, online course is designed to provide participants with a deep understanding of the Omeka platform infrastructure, of key approaches to planning sophisticated projects, of the techniques for building accessible, well-structured sites that take advantage of Omeka’s many functional add-ons. After completing a full course curriculum, each participant will receive a certification of their achievement.

Omeka courses are offered three times a year (Spring, Summer, and Fall), but space is limited.

Once you have created an account, you will be able to select your course and complete a transaction to pay and enroll. Courses are limited to 20 participants to assure adequate instructor support, so sign up today.

Topical Workshops

The topical, standalone workshops are for Omeka users wishing to expand their knowledge of Omeka Classic/Omeka.net or Omeka S. These workshops are offered at a discounted rate of $40 per workshop and will be offered on a periodic basis. Topics will vary, depending on interest as we develop this series. Upcoming Topical Workshops for Omeka

Omeka Classic & Omeka.net in the Classroom

Omeka Classic in the Classroom is a 90 minute workshop introducing methods for integrating digital tools into your lessons and class projects. We will discuss strategies for teaching Omeka Classic alongside your curriculum in a way that incorporates lessons in digital literacy, public writing, and metadata. When students create Omeka Classic Exhibits, they have a multimedia research project they can share with the public, which goes beyond traditional papers and class projects.

Omeka S Essentials

Omeka S Essentials is a 90 minute introduction to the Omeka S user-interface. You will learn how to navigate the Admin Dashboard, including settings, configuration, and managing sites, users, and resources. The workshop is perfect for those who are just starting out or need a refresher.

Publishing Your Research with Omeka

This 90 minute workshop is an introduction to the ways in which you can use Omeka Classic, Omeka.net, and Omeka S to publish your research to the web. We will discuss strategies for web publishing and data management within the Omeka ecosystem. This workshop is for anyone interested in learning how to incorporate the platforms–and finding out which one is right for your project. No prerequisite skills required.

Publishing Linked Open Data (LOD) with Omeka S

This 90 minute workshop on publishing Linked Open Data (LOD). We will begin with the out-of-the-box capabilities of Omeka S. Next, you will learn how to import and apply outside vocabularies and about Modules like Value Suggest that expand the capabilities of your Omeka S project. This course is appropriate for anyone interested in publishing their data in a way that is interoperable across the web.

Individualized Training

We are also available for custom training experiences for your staff, students, or project team and at all skill levels. These two-hour workshops are good for getting your team up to speed on your chosen Omeka platform. You may elect to hold just one training, a four-part series, or anything in between. Pricing for workshops and training is based both on the number of attendees and the number of trainings.
