One of Omeka S’s oldest modules, Value Suggest is a utility tool that aims to improve resource description and access by making a huge range of vocabulary services available to resource template creators. Many of those longstanding services, such as the LIbrary of Congress Linked Data Service, OCLC Metadata Services, and The Getty Vocabularies, will be familiar to our users.
Regularly updated, the most recent version of the module offers several new powerful services. Now, users wishing to disambiguate researchers and research organizations now have the option to draw on the information provided by ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) and Research Organization Registry (ROR).
Moreover, in the interest of supporting more standardized and uniform description creation, resource template editors will be now be able to leverage the current description residing in the their Omeka S installation by selecting the Omeka option to restrict inputs to values already at use with the property, the property and resource template, or the property and resource class.
These additions join a wealth of linked data vocabulary services options for users around the world:
- those with museum collections will appreciate the availability of Nomenclature for describing objects;
- those interested in precision in the discription of entities can use the RDA Value Vocabularies;
- those linking time periods have PeriodO;
- those working on geographic description have GeoNames;
- those working to gain control over copyright and re-use status of digital materials can deploy Rights Statements;
- those committed to creating LGBTQ+ inclusive description have access to Homosaurus;
- those with French collections have both IdRef and Les voabularies du Ministere de la Culture, those with German matirals have Germeinsame Normdatei, those working with Italian materials have the Nuovo Soggettario, while those with Spanish materials have access to Tesauros del patrimonio cultural de Espana and Thesaurus de la Universitate de Barcelona;
- and, Archaeologies can make use of Pactols of Frantiq.
