Zotero Import/Sync in omeka 2.0?

Hello, I plan to publish a large zotero bibliography (Basque Bibliography https://www.zotero.org/groups/baskbib ). I'm playing around with a drupal biblio site: http://eusref.net ; but I experience some problems exporting data from zotero (best results in bibtex format althoug there are bibtex fields mismatched or get lost), and zotero sync doesn't work well.

I'd love to have a bulk zotero to omeka exporter (via Zotero RDF?) and/or a sync plugin. Is this planned? If that is so, I'd contribute with a basque local to omeka...

There is a Zotero Import plugin, but it has not yet been updated for Omeka 2.0

Do we know when it is slated to be rolled out? I have some folks on my team at Columbia interested in maybe contributing. Who is working on it?

Would someone mind posting an update. We just signed up but didnt realise this isnt available for 2.0 so any news much appreciated.

Zotero Import for Omeka 2.0 is next on the list of plugins to update. We need to finish off the current set of plugins we're working on (Contribution, EmbedCodes, GuestUser, and some others) and then that's on my list of plugins to tackle.

Hi Sheila - thanks for the update. We have a very large collection that we need to transfer from Zotero to Omeka to launch our Omeka site in late June. I understand these things are difficult to advise on but it would be a great help for us to know your best guess on whether the 2.0 version will be available in time for us to meet our deadline (i.e. is it likely to be a couple of weeks or a couple of months away?).

It is hard to nail down an exact date, but it is possible that it will be ready by the end of June.

I saw that you've updated some more of the plugins for Omeka 2.0, that's great!
Does this mean that Zotero Import is next on the list?

I am sorry but it is over a month that we didn't have an update on this issue. Although I didn't post until now I have been waiting since the beginning of the summer for the new release of the plugin. I really appreciate your efforts to deal with various issues at the same time but I wonder if you have an estimate for the availability of Zotero plugin.

With full understanding about delays--and major appreciation for the immense work that goes into such an update--my project is also heavily dependent on this plugin's update. An update would be immensely helpful for our planning.

I am also very interested in learning when the 2.0 Zotero plugin will be available.

Sorry. The best estimate I can give is that it will likely be at least a month. I'm taking a look at the current state of the code, and there is still a fair amount of work to do.

Just a follow-up that may help those teams, like mine, that were desperate for a working 2.0 Zotero Import plugin. It turns out that the most recent update on the Omeka github page for the 2.0 plugin update is more or less intact and working:

One reason that it has not been publicly released is that there are apparently still issues with Dreamhost, but the plugin works perfectly on Reclaim and the university server that we tested it on. Obviously caveat emptor. Huge thanks to the Omeka theme, in advance, for all their work on this.

Just tested the Zotero plugin as it stands.

The good news is that it works!

Bluehost users will probably still have to reset the php path: path.
background.php.path = "" in the applications/config/config.ini file.

It worked by inserting "setsid /usr/bin/php-cli"

It is possible that your host does not allow you to run background processes. Follow the instructions under Activate Error Logging to see if an error occurs. You can try changing your path to PHP-CLI in the same config.ini file, under background.php.path

We were able to run backround processes under the same host with the CsvImport plugin.I did activate the error log and the file is still empty after running Zotero Import...

By the way, the collection is imported but doesn't contain any item.

There's just no easy way to troubleshoot this. If you want to dig deep, and feel comfortable in the command line, you can do the following:

1. In your Omeka database, go to the processes table and take note of the highest id where class is equal to "ZoteroImport_ImportProcess"
2. In your server's command line, navigate to /path/to/omeka/application/scripts and run this command: $ php background.php -p {id} where "{id}" is equal to the id you got above.
3. Reply here with the output of that command

What you're doing here is running the background process directly. It may work, it may not, but at least we'll be getting somewhere.

I am trying to import the items from the zotero account but although the process starts, it stops after importing a number of items. We have installed HP's DOM module.

There's a lot of noise in that log, but the actual Omeka error messages in what you pasted both talk about the same thing:

Destination directory is not writable: '/var/www/omeka/files/fullsize'

Have you checked the permissions on your files directory and its subdirectories? It looks like Omeka can't write to at least the fullsize directory (and possibly others; it would be hard to say because it's stopping on the initial failure, so check all those folders).

Thanks John for the suggestion. We changed the permissions and it seemed to solve the problem. Nevertheless the process stopped after the system imported 270 records, roughly a fifth of the total.

It appears that Amazon Web Services (where Zotero files are stored) is timing out. My suggestion is to delete the import and try again. Sometimes this is enough to fix it.

Thanks for the suggestions. After many efforts I managed to import the entire library. Apparently the import stopped after some time due to our server's firewall settings. I managed to bypass this by connecting directly to the server through Teamviewer.
Nevertheless now, although the entire library is uploaded, I don't have access to the files linked to the records that have been supposedly imported along with them. When I click on the image of a file I receive the following message:
404 Page Not Found
/omeka/files/original/a1dc832b4e21a5ebf710ad55d9135f5e.pdf is not a valid URL.
I tried to manually attach a pdf file from my computer to a record but I still receive the same message. Any hints are welcome.

Wonderful: I have successfully installed the Zotero plugin for 2.0, and after changing the PHP path for the background process to the place where php in located on my server (error message was: no PHP-CLI found), the import started.

But only about 1000 items have been imported, the rest (another 1500) hasn't. I wonder if it is the same problem ypapadop reports (server firewall settings); may there be another reason?

The import, is it supposed to be constant, that means: if I post new items on the zotero feed, will they be imported automatically as update? Or, if I tell Zotero import to import the same feed again, will it autodetect duplicates (only import new items?)

ypapadop, so am I following right that you can directly upload files, and file thumbnails appear for both directly uploaded and imported files?

If so, has anything changed regarding the permissions to the files/original folder?

I have no problems with the files in the records that have been imported directly from my computer. Nevertheless the import stops after a while as a result of the firewall settings of the University server. In order to bypass this issue I accessed the server through Teamviewer.
Now the records have been imported but I don't have access to the attached pdf files nor can I upload a new file to an existing record. When I click on a thumbnail

If it is indeed a an issue of permissions should I change the settings in the Zotero account or Omeka?

It seems like either permissions, or maybe a problem copying the original file to the files/originals folder after the derivatives have been created. All the derivatives appear okay, but when I try to look at the original I'm sent to the Omeka login page. Can you tell on your end looking at the server whether the files/originals has the expected file in it?

We verified that he pdf files have been uploaded along with the records and are indeed in the folder files/originals. We subsequently checked the folder's permissions and realized that the aforementioned folder was "read write" but its contents were only "read". Nevertheless even after changing the permissions of the contents we still receive the same message.
