Slideshow on front page?

I was just asked about being able to put a slideshow of images on the front page. Other than MediaRSS, is there any work taking place on something to do this?

I'm thinking it might not be too hard to put together using the spacegallery jQuery addon and retheming the front page.

Any thoughts?
