The problem with Microsoft Zoom.It is that it requires silverlight which unlike Adobe Flash, is not installed by all users.
I'm pretty sure end-users can view Zoom.it images without having Silverlight. I don't have it and I can view the zoomable image on Microsoft's site and have done so also on some Omeka sites using the plugin.
I think Microsoft's official line on this is that Zoom.it "enhances the experience with Microsoft Silverlight, when available."
