There is some basic information in our Codex that lists the functions and files required for all themes, but, as with much of our documentation, it is still in early stages.

In addition to the beginnings of documentation that Sheila pointed to, we've packaged the current release client with 3 different themes (in the /themes/ folder) that display content in a variety of ways. The helper functions most theme developers will use are included in these choices. The "Thanks, Roy" default theme is by far the simplest, and can changed significantly by just changing the CSS included within that theme.
