I recently installed Omeka 1.4.1. I've been importing data sets from Zotero. As I import the latest set I delete the old one. This might be a root cause for the issue I see. I have 298 items in all of my collections together but when I browse by tag it returns over 600 results for tags where I know there are only 146 items.
When I did a general search on a specific item name it returned over 1000 records. Is this a case of the database not clearing out records from deleted collections perhaps?
The searches shouldn't be able to return more results than there are items.
You're saying that the Browse Items page says you have x number of items, but then if you do a search, it says you have more?
Note that you can have more tags than items, because tags can exist even without being applied to any items.
Also, I see another point that could be a source of confusion: you mentioned deleting collections. In Omeka, deleting a collection simply "un-links" all the items that used to be part of that collection. The items, by design, aren't deleted when you delete a collection.
