Choosing a DAM for best import simplicity

I am about to start helping a small historical society with digitising original materials - mostly photographs. I am trying to work out the best way to scan, add metadata and watermark if required.

At this stage, I could use aperture or Lightroom on my desktop system to sort and prepare as required, however, I thought it might be worth seeing what others are using to prepare content prior to ingest.

I haven't checked plugins yet, so apologies for this very broad question.

One option is to import a CSV file that contains item metadata. If files are accessible by a stable URL, you can import those from the CSV Import plugin as well. Read more about it here: http://omeka.org/codex/Plugins/CSV_Import_2.0

There aren't any plugins for Omeka that relate to preparing or organizing files, but you can batch import files using the dropbox plugin. http://omeka.org/codex/Plugins/Dropbox_2.0
