  1. Hi all,

I've been trying to install Omeka for a while now & its been one error after another (php, htaccess, mod rewrite issues, etc).

Finally, it appeared to be installed, but when I clicked on the admin panel link, I got this msg:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /admin/index.php on line 30.

What gives?! Wondering if there are issues I missed, eg is Omeka not optimized for use on Macs/certain FTP clients/web hosts? Searched everywhere but can't find any solutions. I decided to try omeka specifically for the collections and search features, but this it seems it might be easier to keeping hacking @ Wordpress. I've never spent this long trying to install a program and I'm wondering if I should cut my losses now.

  2. Oh, and I just discovered that clicking on the installed website link also produces an error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /omeka/index.php on line 18

  3. Where are you installing Omeka: 3rd party LAMP host, your own server?

I'm sure you have done this, but want to be certain that you had looked over all of the installation requirements and instructions:

  4. Hi Sheila,

I installed on 3rd party host (1&1) and I've confirmed that ImageMagick won't fly b/c my pkg doesn't have SSH access. Seems silly to upgrade to pkg costing 3X my current one just for SSH. So I'd have to explore other hosts, which may/not have better pricing.

Omeka.net won't work for me b/c I need more backend access (eg re-configure some classifications) and pricing for unlimited plugins is steep.

So sadly, I think I'll just stick with WP for now.
