</body>

</html>

Then, with "Edit CSS Function" in Firefox, here's what I got

/* Edited with EditCSS */
/**** LINK-tag style sheet css%5Cscreen.css ****/

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>404 Not Found</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Not Found</h1>
<p>The requested URL /omeka-0.10beta/themes/default/css\screen.css was not found on this server.</p>
</body></html>

Which is interesting. I knew about the Linux requirement, but its so odd that it will work with IE and Chrome, but not Firefox.

You'll have to edit whatever apache configuration file exists for your directory, which, depending on how GoDaddy works, may require you to have them do it for you. You said they don't use httpd.conf, but instead "use another one".. try editing that.

AllowOverride needs to be set to All when editing that file.

Good luck.

One of the system requirements listed for Omeka is Linux, so I'm afraid you'll likely have trouble setting Omeka up with WAMP.

Could you look at the source code being rendered in your Firefox browser to see if the CSS is being included within the head HTML element?

We have no immediate plans to develop this added feature, but if there's enough interest we can consider adding it to the core. At this point, it'd be possible to build a plugin that could administrate the permissions of users beyond Omeka's presets.

Anyone interested should consider joining the Developer Mailing List to discuss this further. http://groups.google.com/group/omeka-dev

For some reason, my new Omeka installation won't show up properly when using Firefox. It's like its not reading the CSS at all. The truly crazy thing is that it works fine with IE. I am running my installation on a WAMP local server, is that part of the problem?

Mod_rewrite is installed.

This is on a godaddy.com shared hosting account where you do not have access to modify the conf files (they do not use httpd.conf - they use another one).

Has anyone had a problem installing and using this package on a shared host?

In future releases, will there be an option to manually grant certain rights to certain users without upgrading their user role? For our project, we are working with student researchers, and have given them "Contributor" status, which is well-suited in every way except that they are unable to add their materials to a collection. This means the Admin or Super users have to go in and add them to the collections manually.

Anyway, that's on my wishlist.

Thanks for all the great work! Omeka is getting better and better with each release.

It appears Omeka is looking for the "summer-theme-0.9.0" theme that you previously installed with 0.9. Even if you downloaded the updated version, the folder name has changed so you'll need to edit this info.

Try logging into the admin panel and changing your theme to one that's prepackaged with 0.10. That should do the trick -- let us know how it works out.

Hello,

I installed Omeka in a non-root directory named "exhibits". I have a WordPress installation in the root. Although I did see the recommendation against editing the .htaccess files, I followed the advice of a poster on this forum and changed my base in both files (exhibits/.htaccess and exhibits/admin/.htaccess) using the RewriteBase command. Omeka seems to be functioning and displaying fine from a user perspective, but I cannot access the admin panel. When I try, it searches the WordPress installation for a page with the name "exhibits/admin."

Thanks,
Erin B.

We've gone through the upgrade steps for 0.10beta. At first, when we went to the site, we got a message saying we needed to install Omeka. Clicking the link took us to a page that said we could delete the install directory. But there was not way to continue. We either got one of those two pages or the other.

After deleting the install directory, we then just got the need-to-install page, nothing else.

So I replaced the install directory and now we get the need to install page, followed by a page with a message saying that "Apache's mod_rewrite extension must be enabled."

Well, when we restore all our old Omeka files, everything works fine under the old version. So the server environment must be OK. Can't figure this out. Here is an installation of the new version:

http://daytonstories.org/omeka2

And here is the old version, on the same server, working fine:

http://daytonstories.org/omeka

These are both on Dreamhost.

Any ideas?

Hi Notis,

There was a bug in the SimplePages plugin that gave a 403 page when someone visits a page while not logged in. We fixed this in the newest update of the plugin. You can download it via Subversion:

$ svn co https://omeka.org/svn/plugins/SimplePages/tags/0.10.x-0.2.1/ /path/to/plugin/directory/SimplePages

Otherwise, you'll have to wait until the stable version of Omeka is released.

I'm very excited to try out Omeka, and I've been working on installing it on my personal webpage so I can experiment before trying to use it for the historic costume collection at Vassar College.

I've been consulting with my webhosting service to get everything running. My first problem was solved by upgading my php to 5.2.4, which they helped me with. So, I know I'm getting closer, but now when I try to go to my URL to finish the installation, I'm getting the message: "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)" I saw another post about installing on a Mac which mentioned having to create a link to find the mysql.sock file, but that's not quite the same case as mine, so I'm not sure if that's what I have to do - and if it is, I don't know how to do it.

Any advice? I'm waiting to hear from my hosting provider too, but this seems like it might be more omeka-specific than server-specific, so I figured it couldn't hurt to post here.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, there is no good work around, and we're unable to support PHP versions below 5.2. Previous attempts of users to run Omeka on earlier versions proved to be problematic, with several bugs arising that are limitations we can't change.

I installed .10 this morning and all went well. I'm very excited for the development you guys have been doing. I'm a total Omeka proselytizer.

Here are a couple of minor things I noted when poking around on my install.

IE7: when editing the Dublin Core metadata, the element description under text boxes displays one word per line. This ends up making that page super long. Amazingly, this page looks fine in IE6

FF/IE: on advanced search page the + button to add search fields does not work

Suggestions:
-add TinyMCE to SimplePages. Currently must use html or the text does not display between p tags.
-enlarge the DC subject box. I had been listing subjects as a string separated by semicolons. Is best practice to use the Add input box for each individual subject term?
-On the Add Exhibit page, increase the size of the Exhibit Title text box. Awkward to enter titles of even just a few words. (The length of text boxes under Settings is a good length.)
-On the Edit Page for exhibits, add a note in the blue items box that you need to grab the green crosshair to select and stick an image. Users had trouble with just grabbing the thumbnail in .9 version as well.

Is it possible to run the .10b version of Omeka with PHP 5.1.6? We are using Centos so that is the PHP version we have.

The installation document at http://digin.arizona.edu/lectures/omeka.pdf has been updated to reflect the new version and to harmonize the installation parameters with other projects we are developing. This document explains how to configure Omeka in a VMWare virtual machine from scratch using VMWare Workstation, Server or Fusion for the Mac.

I have also posted a fully-configured virtual machine loaded with the 0.10beta software at http://digin.arizona.edu/lectures/omeka10demo.zip that is compatible with VMWare Workstation (30day eval available), Server (free), Player (free), ESX (free, sort of) and Fusion for the Mac (30day eval available).

This is a large file (1.2GB+) so expect from one to several hours download time depending on your connection.

The readme for the fully configured VM may be previewed at http://digin.arizona.edu/lectures/omeka10bdemoreadme.pdf for further information.

So, I managed to download the OKAPI package (thanks, Jeremy) but am having some difficulty getting it up and running. After uploading the files and then trying to run the install, I'm getting an error message which says "Your Omeka database configuration file has not been set up properly. Please edit the configuration and reload this page."
I looked in the root directory and there is no db.ini file. Is this the culprit?
I tried copying the file from the 0.10 release, but no luck.
