Hi kwalsh,

Have you read through the string of discussions about the contribution plugin on the forums? Others were having similar issues earlier this year, see:
http://omeka.org/forums/topic/getting-the-contribution-plugin-to-work?replies=17

Are you using the version of the plugin currently available in the directory? http://omeka.org/files/plugins/omeka-contribution-plugin-0.9.1.zip?

There was also discussion on the dev list, which is open to everyone on Google Groups: http://groups.google.com/group/omeka-dev/browse_thread/thread/474726e83a529a09

Does this help?

I installed the contributor plugin using the directions in the screencast for the contributor plugin.

I get the dialog box for contributing an item, fill it out, select the file to add, and agree to the consent form. Then, I get a message that says "oops sorry, this page does not exist. Check your url or send us a note."

I receive an email as the administrator indicating that a contribution was made, with a url. When I select the url, I get a 403 error.

Any tips on what to troubleshoot?

I can add items to the archive using a standard contributor login.

thanks,

I was able to install the Bilingual plugin by commenting out line 89:

if(empty($language)) {
 //throw new Exception( 'Please provide a language when configuring Bilingual plugin!' );

The link to 'Configure' the plugin appears on the Settings > Plugins page and the "Bilingual Fields" form fields appears on the Step 3 page.

Looks like the Bilingual plugin is pretty broken then. It has worked for us in the past, but it seems like installation of the plugin is generally broken now. I've taken it down from the downloads page until further notice. Unfortunately, we don't have any plans to fix the plugin for the 0.9.x release branch of Omeka, but we're looking into solutions for multiple language metadata for the upcoming 0.10 release. Hope that helps.

Hi Jan,

The current 0.10 alpha and upcoming 0.10 beta releases feature code that improves and augments the displaying of files by allowing plugins to easily change the display of files with specific MIME types. In the meantime, Tom's right in mentioning that colleagues from another university have been developing a flash player plugin for that works with the 0.9 release. It's on the way.

If you're interested in developing other plugins, particularly simple ones that control the display of files, I'd be more than happy to discuss development possibilities on the Google Group (http://groups.google.com/group/omeka-dev/) or by setting up a phone conversation.

Best,

for online video flv is the mostly used format of these days.
working for a large oral history archive with 800 hours of videomaterial the decission to go online with flash has already been made. May be our it-team could devolop such a plugin - because omeka seems to be a very good thing. best jan

OK-the MPEG file not playing is something we have on the list to be fixed for version .10 beta. The FLV file on the other hand will require a plugin that isn't currently on our docket.

I guess the short answer would be to convert the videos to MOV files for now, especially in the case of your FLV files.

ewb,

I imagine that Omeka will eventually be made OAI harvestable via a plugin. Before this can be written we need to finalize the new Omeka data model and plugin API. Expect a public release (v0.10) in a month or two. Though, for the moment, our priority is migration into Omeka, so I would expect a data harvester before a data provider is available.

Hmm, yeah it looks as though this is broken, some sort of installation error. Try commenting out lines 75-81 in your plugin.php file in the plugin, which should be the install() function. Then re-install the plugin and let me know if that works. You'll need to configure the plugin again before the fields actually show up on the form.

Hi, you're getting the error message b/c your error log file needs to be renamed (to errors.log from errors.log.empty). Then when you have log.errors = true that should work. Also, the easiest way to see the text of the errors is to make sure you have display_errors set to 1 in your .htaccess file, and debug.errors = true in your config.ini file. That should cause the errors to print directly to the screen.

When you get an error message from that, let us know and we'll see if we can figure out what's going on. Thanks.

waqasmalik on "Installing Bilingual Plugin"

I have a problem installing the Bilingual plugin so I decided to enable my error log file for better understanding of the problem. I searched the omeka help and found out how to enable error log file and I did follow it correctly but it still shows me this message:

"Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'Error log file cannot be written to. Please give this file read/write permissions for the web server.' in /var/www/omeka-0.9.2/application/libraries/Omeka/Logger.php:36 Stack trace: #0 /var/www/omeka-0.9.2/application/libraries/Omeka/Core.php(224): Omeka_Logger->setErrorLog('/var/www/omeka-...') #1 /var/www/omeka-0.9.2/application/libraries/Omeka/Core.php(65): Omeka_Core->initializeDefaultLogger() #2 /var/www/omeka-0.9.2/index.php(12): Omeka_Core->initialize() #3 {main} thrown in /var/www/omeka-0.9.2/application/libraries/Omeka/Logger.php on line 36"

I checked both the files logger and core to make sure that the error logging value is set to true and it is. Then I realized the the error log filename is coded incorrectly in the "config.ini". Below is what I got from config.ini file

Log SQL statements

log.sql = false

Log errors (to be implemented)

log.errors = true

where as in the /application/logs folder I have these files:

-rwxrwxrwx 1 wriaz wriaz 0 2007-03-29 16:00 errors.log.empty
-rw-rw-rw- 1 wriaz wriaz 0 2007-03-29 16:00 sql.log.empty

so if you simply replace this line "log.errors = true" with "errors.log = true" it will work fine. Now coming back to my original problem I tried to install Bilingual plugin again and it errors out again as I am expecting but It still didn't write anything in my error log file. The error log file still empty.

Can somebody help me out with this.

Thanks

Yes, it would be possible to make a plugin that created PDF thumbnails using ImageMagick. Currently we have no plans to add that as a feature in Omeka, but we also didn't know that was possible, so thanks for the heads up.

There are at least 2 ways that I can think of to make a plugin that would interact with PDFs uploaded through Omeka. You could either hook in to the file upload process to create a thumbnail or image (the 'after_file_upload' hook), or you could write a template helper that would use a 3rd-party web app to display the PDF in your Omeka theme.

Feel free to let us know if you decide to embark on one or another of these plugins. We recommend that you post to the dev list for help with development, as these forums are more geared towards support for existing software.

Thanks!

I have read an article on the Web that it is possible to create PDF thumbnails using ImageMagick, will it be possible in Omeka?

this is the article - Create PDF thumbnails using ImageMagick on Linux
http://blog.prashanthellina.com/2008/02/03/create-pdf-thumbnails-using-imagemagick-on-linux/

In relation to this, the iPaper plugin works only if you have a valid domain and connected to the Internet but doesn't work in a development server using localhost.

Is there a way to connect Omeka to external applications using plugins, like in this case Xpdf, Evince, KPDF or other PDF viewer?

Hi Katharine,

The dropbox seems to place files in order of file size. We are rethinking how that works, but unfortunately that is the default for now.

The order you add files to an item is the order in which they are displayed. So, if you want page 1 to appear first you add it first, and so on.

Another option to ensure that the PDF's appear in order is to merge them into one file and then add the iPaper plugin. At the item level, it allows your visitors to flip through the pages of the PDF like a book. It has zoom capability and is generally handy for viewing documents. If you haven't already, check out the information we have posted in the "How To" section: http://omeka.org/codex/IPaper_plugin.

We're hoping to use Omeka for online exhibitions that will include items featuring multi-page PDF scans of manuscripts. I've figured out how to use the Dropbox to associate multiple files with items easily, but the files seem to be assigned identifiers randomly (rather than, say, in order according to filename) and they therefore display out of numerical order, too. We would really like to be able to display ms. pages in order, so they can be read easily. Is there a way to change the identifiers or sort by filename?

Thank you!

There's currently no setting to control what user roles can edit Sitenotes -- you're right that by default this is super users, and that's hardcoded into the plugin.

If you dig into the code of the sitenotes plugin, edit the index.php file locating within /admin/sitenotes/. On line six, edit the current code
<?php if(has_permission('super')): ?>
to grant permission for admin users, replacing it with
<?php if(has_permission('super') || has_permission('admin')): ?>
. This is just a fix for how it currently works, but you should be all set.

A future version of the plugin should actually use the ACL to control user permissions, but this first release was meant to be a simple solution. Let me know if this works out for you.

How does one get Sitenotes to be editable amongst Admins? It seems like only Superuser can actually add a note. We would like for folks on the Admin level to leave notes amongst themselves. Is there a line I need to edit in the .ini files?

Hi, thanks for testing out the map plugin. Do you know how to use SVN? If so, could you check out the latest version of the plugin (on the command line, you would do:
svn co https://omeka.org/svn/plugins/Geolocation/trunk Geolocation
inside of your plugins/ directory) and see if it's still broken on your installation? I seem to recall that we fixed a bunch of stuff in subversion a while ago, but it must not have made it into the zipped release. I'll probably just put up a zipped file of the latest code, but I'd like to figure out whether yours is a new bug if possible before that. Let me know if that helps or is too much to handle. Thanks!
