Is there a way to make an image in an exhibit link to a media resource rather than to the item detail? Where would we find the code to remove the default link to the item detail?

If you'd like to remove the link to an item, you can do that for a specific exhibit page layout (layout.php) found in the plugin's exhibit layout folder:
/plugins/ExhibitBuilder/views/shared/exhibit_layouts
