Adding items on behalf of "Contributor" users

I might be missing something here! I'm trying to add items as a super user on behalf of my contributor users so that they can login and choose whether to make those items public or not, add tags, etc.

Even if I put their names down as the contributor/creator/both, it still doesn't appear under their items when they login.

Am I doing something wrong?

Contributors can only edit items which they have created. Therefore, they're unable to edit items which a super user has created, nor should they appear under items they've created.

Thanks for the reply!

This seems a bit limiting - what if your contributors are also collaborators? They'd have to share a single login and password, or have admin access.

Some of my contributors are on dialup accounts and so struggle with uploading this to Omeka. I was hoping to contribute on behalf of them, without having to compromise their login and password, and then they edit the metadata, tags, etc.

Is this something that could be achieved with a plugin? Or is it simply not possible?

The contributor role works well with the Contribution plugin, where you wouldn't want to give them access to editing files they didn't originally create. However, I understand your request for greater flexibility because everyone may have different needs.

Yes, plugins can achieve these changes to user roles, including making new roles (the MyOmeka plugin, for example, creates a new role called My-Omeka).

A quick workaround for this would be to have your Contributor level users add the item itself as well as the metadata for it, after which point you would go through and upload the respective files. I know the workflow seems a bit backwards, but that would be the easiest way to go about it with the way the system currently works.

Also, a plugin could be built to reassign ownership of an item to a different user, if that's what you're looking for.

Yes! That does sound like what I'm looking for - but being able to assign ownership to multiple users would be nice as well.
