On testing this today under Omeka 1.3.1, a few thoughts & miscellaneous bug reports:

  • It would be handy to have a bit more documentation about how the plugin works ahead of time-- or, failing that, a note that one should test out the plugin using the included CSV file. In particular, examples of how the URL and tag fields work would be nice. (A screencast demo would be even better, but that's wishful thinking.)
  • URL fields with spaces in them aren't being HTML-encoded, so importing them fails.
  • Undoing an import works beautifully, but the status listing always says "Undo Import In Progress" even after the Undo is finished.

There are 2 screencasts on using CSV Import plugin in the screencast section. Will also add links here. --SheilaBrennan 21:38, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Some potential enhancements:

  • I have an OpenOffice Calc file with some helpful functions in it that I've been using; automatic creation of item titles from separate author, recipient, and date-created fields, for example. I think it would be nice to distribute something like this to help new users of the plugin get started, and I'd be happy to contribute mine.
  • It would be nice to be able to upload image files into the csvfiles directory and have them imported a la Dropbox plugin. I've ended up just putting my images in a temp directory for import, then deleting them later.
  • Support for multiple images per item. (This might be possible already by designating multiple URL fields per row, but if so, documenting that would be nice.)

Yes, you can add rows for each image, name them something like "File1", "File2" and include the URL to each in each cell. --SheilaBrennan 21:38, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Scope of Talk:Plugins/CsvImport Page

Discussion of ways to improve documentation is within the scope of this page, and other Talk pages. Bug reports and feature requests should be posted to the Forums, and not addressed here. --Jeremy Boggs 15:35, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
